Pet Therapy in Nursing Homes

Meet Midas, our beautiful pet therapy dog. Many years ago Judy Christensen adopted this Shepard/Husky mix because of his sweet loving nature and named him Midas because of the color of his fur.  But we think Midas has adopted Countryside Nursing Home!

Pet Therapy in Nursing Homes

Midas’ weekly visits have made such a difference in our resident’s lives. One resident who no longer spoke would say “Hi Beautiful” when Midas came through the door. Another one of our ladies once had a lifelong fear of dogs and now she pets and talks to him.

Research has proven how beneficial pet therapy in nursing homes can be for elderly. Regular visits with pets, usually dogs, can have positive physical, emotional, and mental benefits. Physical benefits include lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and reducing overall stress. Emotional benefits include decreasing loneliness through the physical interaction. Anxiety and depression are also decreased.

Pet therapy is one of the regular services we offer our residents and we certainly know that Midas has the golden touch!
