Planting Tomatoes with Mike!

Everyone knows that at Countryside, one of our all-time favorite summer activities is gardening! Last week, one of our long-time friends Mike came to help the ladies plant tomatoes in our backyard.

For the past year, Mike has been coming every week as a volunteer with St. Bridget’s Church in Framingham to help out with communion. Knowing the ladies love gardening so much, he came to us with the idea of planting tomatoes and we couldn’t have been more excited!

Our activities calendar is always full of fun events, and we will continue to share pictures of them throughout the summer here.

Visit from Pinefield Garden Club

Every year, the wonderful ladies from Pinefield Garden Club visit to help get our outdoor space summer-ready. After April (and even May) showers, it was great to get some long overdue sunshine!
Everyone worked together on filling the flower pots and planting them in the backyard, which is now more beautiful than ever. We are thankful for the help of the Pinefield Garden Club and will admire the flowers all season long!

Senior Health & Wellness Fair 2015

MetroWest’s Senior Health & Wellness Fair

Countryside Nursing Home was in attendance at this year’s MetroWest’s Senior Health & Wellness Fair hosted by Senator Spilka.

It was a fun and informative day of where health care and elder services organizations shared information on the type of services they provide. Many seniors and caregivers attended workshops on health programs, benefits and wellness activities.

We look forward to next year’s Senior Health & Wellness Fair!

Pet Therapy in Nursing Homes

Meet Midas, our beautiful pet therapy dog. Many years ago Judy Christensen adopted this Shepard/Husky mix because of his sweet loving nature and named him Midas because of the color of his fur.  But we think Midas has adopted Countryside Nursing Home!

Pet Therapy in Nursing Homes

Midas’ weekly visits have made such a difference in our resident’s lives. One resident who no longer spoke would say “Hi Beautiful” when Midas came through the door. Another one of our ladies once had a lifelong fear of dogs and now she pets and talks to him.

Research has proven how beneficial pet therapy in nursing homes can be for elderly. Regular visits with pets, usually dogs, can have positive physical, emotional, and mental benefits. Physical benefits include lowering blood pressure and heart rate, and reducing overall stress. Emotional benefits include decreasing loneliness through the physical interaction. Anxiety and depression are also decreased.

Pet therapy is one of the regular services we offer our residents and we certainly know that Midas has the golden touch!

Choosing the Right Nursing Home

Choosing the Right Nursing Home

Choosing the best nursing home for your loved one can be an emotional and confusing challenge. You’ll need to think about many things, including food, nursing staffs, activities and overall environment, and location.

Choosing the best nursing home for your mother.

While no one can take care of your mother or loved one as well as you, your continued involvement in her care will assist the nursing facility you choose give her the best care possible. So trust your instincts! Only consider facilities in which you have a good feeling about, the services are there that she needs, and that the staff is friendly and welcoming, but also experienced.

Massachusetts Senior Care Association has developed a little check list HERE to help guide you to make the best decision.
